Deportment of Metals from E-Waste PCBs towards Alloy and Slag Phases during Smelting Using CaO-Al2O3-SiO2-B2O3 Slags

Printed circuit boards (PCBs) from antiquated electronic goods were processed by a pyrometallurgical route to produce and separate alloy slag phases. The process involved initial size reduction of PCBs, followed pyrolysis at 500 °C for 6 h finally smelting the solid materials in an electric furnace. A preliminary test was performed 1600 estimate composition generated. In later kilogram-scale experiments, B2O3 flux added along with CaO SiO2 decrease liquidus temperature required smelt PCBs. level fluxing adapted earlier phase equilibria studies CaO-Al2O3-SiO2-B2O3 system. Results showed that decreased melting assisted recovery most valuable metals within 1350 temperature. recovered 99.8% Cu, 99% Sn, 100% precious (Au, Ag, Pt). strategy high Al2O3 containing e-waste PCBs proposed based on experimental findings this research.
